QUIC vs TCP: A Performance Evaluation over LTE with NS-3

In the vast majority of mobile applications, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is still leveraged at transport layer Internet’s protocol stack. But, in many cases, performance TCP over networks has been proven sub-optimal practice, thus causing substantial bottlenecks. Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC) a new protocol, currently being standardized by Engineering Task Force (IETF), that aims solving some inherent problems TCP. The purpose this paper to provide comprehensive overview QUIC and compare wireless networks. To with under various transmission scenarios LTE networks, ns-3 network simulator employed. simulations performed showed 1) good or average conditions, characterized better steady state throughput same time achieving quite lower file download times; 2) poor two protocols exhibit similar performance.
